The Berlinale has announced more detailed planning for this year's event. In 2021 the festival consists of an "Industry Event" from March 1st to 5th – for industry representatives and accredited press – as well as a "Summer Special" from June 9th to 20th, at which the Berlinale audience in the presence of the filmmakers Can see most of the film selection. The award ceremony at the 71st Berlinale is also divided into two parts this year: the winners will be announced at the Industry Event, the awards ceremony will take place in front of the audience of the Summer Special.

A new concept was also decided for the composition of the international jury. The directors of six Golden Bear winning films will decide on the prizes in the competition at the 71st Berlinale. These are Mohammad Rasoulof (49, "There is no evil"), Nadav Lapid (45, "Synonyms"), Adina Pintilie (41, "Touch Me Not"), Ildikó Enyedi (65, "Body and Soul") ), Gianfranco Rosi (57, "Fire At Sea") and Jasmila Žbanic (46, "Grbavica"). There should not be a jury chair.

The film selection will be published from February 8th to 11th. A video presentation by the festival management is planned for the announcement on February 11th. The Artistic Director, Carlo Chatrian (49), will present the films in the competition and the Berlinale Special.
