A psychiatric documentary wins the Golden Bear at the Berlinale. And an eight-year-old gets a Silver Bear.
The 73rd Berlinale is history, the prizes are distributed. The Golden Bear for Best Film went to the French psychiatric documentary “Sur l’Adamant” by director Nicolas Philibert (72) on Saturday evening.
There was a big surprise at the Silver Bears. In addition to the Grand Jury Prize, which the German director Christian Petzold (62) was allowed to celebrate for his film “Red Sky” (“Afire”) – the second part of his trilogy, which he began in 2020 with the love drama “Undine”. , an eight-year-old was awarded.
Eight year old makes history
The young Spanish actress Sofía Otero received the Silver Bear for the best acting performance in a leading role. She shone in “20,000 especies de abejas” (“20,000 Species of Bees”) by director Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren (38) as a child searching for her own identity. According to the film festival, Otero made history as the youngest Berlinale winner.

The Silver Bear for Best Actor in a Supporting Role went to Austrian artist Thea Ehrlich (23) in the crime thriller “Till the End of the Night” by award-winning director Christoph Hochhäusler (50). The Munich filmmaker was awarded the Grimme Prize for his film “Dreileben – Eine Minute Dunkel” (2011).
“Mal Viver” (“Bad Living”) by João Canijo was awarded the Silver Bear Jury Prize. The Silver Bear for Best Director went to Philippe Garrel for “Le grand chariot” (“The Plow”). Angela Schanelec received the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay for “Music”. And the Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution was awarded to Hélène Louvart for her cinematography in Giacomo Abbruzzese’s “Disco Boy”.
The Berlin International Film Festival 2023 took place from February 16th to 26th. Actress Kristen Stewart (32) acted as jury president.
