Maren Eggert is awarded the Silver Bear by the Berlinale jury for her role in "Ich bin dein Mensch".

The German actress Maren Eggert (47, "The Dreamlike Path") won the Silver Bear at the 71st Berlinale. The jury announced this on Friday (March 5th) at an online ceremony and on the official website. She was awarded for her leading role in Maria Schrader's (55) melancholy comedy "Ich bin dein Mensch". "Her presence made us curious, her charm sensitive. And her wide range of acting made us feel, laugh and ask questions", the international jury explained in the explanation. Eggert plays a scientist who falls in love with a humanoid robot.

The Golden Bear for the best film goes to the producers of "Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn". The jury was enthusiastic about the satire of the Romanian director Radu Jude (43) as "an artfully crafted film that is at the same time exuberant, intelligent and childish, geometrical and lively, imprecise in the best possible way." The Silver Bear "Jury Prize" goes to the documentary "Herr Bachmann und seine Klasse" by the German director Maria Speth (54). The jury's grand prize goes to the film "Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy" by the Japanese Ryusuke Hamaguchi (42). Filmmaker Dénes Nagy (41) from Hungary can look forward to a prize for directing his anti-war film "Natural Light". The South Korean Hong Sangsoo (60) is honored for the script of his black and white film "Introduction".

The award ceremony will take place during the Summer Special from June 9th to 20th, 2021. Numerous cinema screenings, at which the filmmakers will also be present, are to take place for the audience. Among the 15 films invited to compete for the Golden and Silver Bears, the directorial debut of actor Daniel Brühl (42) was "next door". Dominik Graf's (68) literary film adaptation of "Fabian or The Walk to the Dogs" was also one of four German productions that came out empty-handed.
