The Corona-compliant Summer Special of the Berlinale 2021 starts on June 9th. These film highlights will now be shown in 16 open-air cinemas.

Starting shot for part two of the Berlinale 2021: From June 9 to 20, the Corona-compliant summer special will take place in 16 selected open-air cinemas in the German capital – including a specially set up open-air cinema on Museum Island. After the festival jury was able to view the competition films in March and the winners of this year’s edition have also been determined, the audience can now also enjoy the cinema. These film highlights are part of the Berlinale summer program.

Hollywood film with Jodie Foster and Romanian Golden Bear winner

The audience part starts on the opening day with the new Sky series “Me and the Others” with Tom Schilling (39). According to Sky, the six episodes of the German-Austrian production by David Schalko (48) tell the story of a character “who struggles with himself and the world and is allowed to shuffle the cards anew in each episode”. Also from June 9th, the legal drama “The Mauritanier” by Kevin Macdonald (53) with Hollywood star Jodie Foster (58) in the lead role can be seen. In addition to her, Shailene Woodley (29), Benedict Cumberbatch (44) and the French star Tahar Rahim (39) also star in the official opening film.

This year’s Golden Bear “Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn” is already certain. Now film fans can also form an opinion on the Romanian satire by Radu Jude (44), in which everything revolves around the sextape of a teacher (Katia Pascariu, 37), which after its publication on the Internet caused a stir and exchange of views within the middle class cares. The film, which is originally called “Babardeala cu bucluc sau porno balamuc”, will be shown from June 13th.

German highlights and music documentary “Tina”

Actor Daniel Brühl (42, “Good Bye, Lenin!”) Has a home game at the Berlinale 2021. The half-Spaniard is making his directorial debut with “Nebenan”. The psychological thriller, in which Brühl himself plays the leading role, will be shown in open-air cinemas from June 11th. And his German colleague Tom Schilling (39) is also represented at the film festival this year. The Erich Kästner film adaptation of “Fabian or The Walk to the Dogs” with Albrecht Schuch (35) and Saskia Rosendahl (27) starts one day before “next door” – on June 10th.

Another German highlight is “Ich bin dein Mensch” (from June 12th). Actress, director and screenwriter Maria Schrader (55) staged colleague Maren Eggert (47) as a scientist who falls in love with a humanoid robot (Dan Stevens, 38) in the dramatic romance. And it will be musically in the capital this summer thanks to “Tina” by Dan Lindsay and TJ Martin (41). The documentary about the pop icon Tina Turner (81, “The Best”) outlines her career from her beginnings to her great successes in the 80s – and she also has a say. The work can be seen from June 10th.
