The Bermuda shorts are back! The hammer or sheer horror? Our editors Hannah and Friederike also disagree on this trend …

Fashion trends are like celery. Some can’t get enough of it and others … well, others want to choke at the sight of it. But you know what? That’s totally okay. After all, tastes are different. Even our editors sometimes disagree. Because it seems like Bermuda will be back in 2021. Curse or blessing? That is what Hannah and Friederike think of it.

Friederike: My baby belongs in the afterlife

I love shorts and I love shorts. But Bermuda shorts are probably the only kind of pants I just can’t stand. I’ll be completely honest, there is only one possible scenario in which I would ever wear Bermuda shorts. And it looks like this: “It was the summer of ’63, everyone was calling me baby and somehow I liked that.” Yes, you read that right. When I carry a watermelon at the side of Patrick Swayze in my dreams. Then, but ONLY THEN, I would let myself be pounded into putting on a pair of Bermuda shorts.

When I see the knee-length jeans, I just have to think of “Dirty Dancing” immediately. Back then, the parts were probably cool too. When combined correctly, Bermudas can also look cool. But so far I haven’t seen anyone who has done it. In short: I prefer to stick with skirts or paperbag shorts. Because these babies belong to me.

Hannah: “Heee was a boy – she was a giirl!”

For a long time I had banned Bermuda shorts from my closet. And I don’t want to lie: Even today I can’t get used to the classic fabric Bermuda shorts. Fortunately, the knee-length trousers got a trend update last summer and have been part of my summer wardrobe ever since. My favorite is the leather look version. The medium length and the slightly wider cut make the pants look super casual and me too (well, at least I think when I walk through the streets). In the denim version with a frayed hem, I feel a little like the skater girl I used to want to be. Avril would be proud of me! But no fear! So that my look still remains serious and adult and the 15-year-old Hannah, who turned on boys in skate parks, doesn’t get out of hand, I like to combine her with higher sandals. So I can even wear the pants to the office … then stop with a laptop and no skateboard. It’s a shame!
