Bernard Campan (Like queens): this “delicate” moment with his daughter

In the shoes of a father trying to snatch his daughter from prostitution, Bernard Campan is simply overwhelming in the TV movie Comme des reines, broadcast on France 2 on Wednesday June 22 at 9:10 p.m. emotion, in which he gives the reply… to his own daughter!

How do you get into the skin of such a character?

Bernard Campan: I said to myself that it was not necessary to look elsewhere than in the father that I am. She happens to be my daughter, Nina, who plays the character of my daughter. But that didn’t necessarily make it easy for me because it’s quite tricky to play with your child, let alone that role. The emotion was there, on edge. So I let myself be carried away by the situation and the particularly fair and sober scenario.

Did your daughter consult you before accepting this role?

When she wanted to audition, I told her to read the script carefully because this role could still upset her. But she wanted to do it and she contacted the casting director. As for me, as soon as I read it, I felt his energy in this character. It matched him. I spoke about it with Marion Vernoux, (the director) who answered me: “Let her show up, we’ll see!”

How do you transcend your modesty during emotional scenes?

I have the impression that it’s part of the game. If there weren’t this modesty to overcome, there wouldn’t be any point! On the contrary, I prefer to feel that there are obstacles and that we will have to step over them! The challenge is to overcome your fears precisely. That of ridicule has often led me to refuse projects for fear of not being credible. The game is to manage to find a state of abandonment. Like when you run and you have the second wind. Suddenly, it runs on its own. The art of playing, for me, is that: having this feeling that it plays all by itself.

Where will we see you again in the next few months?

On August 31, the cinema adaptation of the playIvan Calberac, The tasting with Isabelle Carre and, at the start of the school year, I will be with Isabelle Gelinas at the Renaissance theater to play Humans, still adapted by Ivan Calbérac. Finally, I’m going to find my two friends from Unknown, Didier Bourdon and Pascal Legitimus, in a film written and directed by Riad Sattouf.
