PARIS (Reuters) – The president of the French Rugby Federation (FFR), Bernard Laporte, was taken into police custody on Tuesday on suspicion of laundering tax evasion, the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF) said.

The PNF indicates that Bernard Laporte has been heard by investigators since Tuesday morning as part of a preliminary investigation opened in August 2020.

The former coach of the XV of France was sentenced at the end of last year to two years in prison suspended and 75,000 euros fine for, in particular, illegal taking of interests and influence peddling.

The FFR could not be immediately contacted to comment on this information.
