  • With Dominic Stricker, the third of four Swiss players was eliminated on Wednesday evening in Gstaad.
  • The Bernese (ATP 106) lost to the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic (ATP 44) 6: 7 (4: 7), 1: 6.
  • This means that there is only one Swiss in the tableau in the individual competition with Stan Wawrinka.

Dominic Stricker and Miomir Kecmanovic entered the center court in Gstaad with some delay. Because the first three rounds of 16 all went over three sets and had lasted a total of 7:30 hours, the last match of the evening could only start at 7 p.m.

Stricker started concentrated against Kecmanovic, who was 62 places higher, but then had to be broken to make it 4:5. But the 20-year-old from Bern was able to react and implemented the immediate rebreak. So, two games later, a tie-break had to decide who won the first set. There Stricker led 3:2, but then only won one point.

Five game losses in a row

In the 2nd set, the Swiss left-hander was a bit out of breath. After winning the serve to make it 1-1, Stricker gave up all the remaining five games. Kecmanovic didn’t even have to beat many winners. The Serb acted consistently and made few mistakes. That was enough against Stricker, who lost a lot in the second set.

Hopes for Wawrinka in singles…

This means that only Stan Wawrinka (ATP 74) remained in the tournament in the individual competition of four Swiss players who started. The Romand will play their round of 16 against Jaume Munar (ATP 111) on Thursday evening from 5:40 p.m. (can be seen live on SRF Zwei and in the Sport App).

… and on Wawrinka/Stricker in doubles

After losing his singles, Stricker was also challenged in doubles alongside Wawrinka on Wednesday evening. Shortly after 10:00 p.m., the Swiss duo advanced to the semi-finals thanks to a 3:6, 6:3, 10:4 against the Colombian pairing Nicolas Barrientos/Juan Sebastian Cabal.
