Best wellness hotels in Europe chosen – four of them are in Germany

Wellness Heaven Awards 2022: Europe’s best wellness hotels selected: four are in Germany, two cost less than 160 euros

Finally relax properly again! After the Corona period, many Germans long for variety and relaxation. This is now also possible again in wellness hotels. A survey of almost 100,000 hotel guests shows where the best are.

Relax for a moment and come down – this works particularly well in the wellness hotel. But which one has the best spa, the most beautiful saunas and the tastiest food? The hotel testers of the Wellness guide “Wellness Heaven” look for answers to this every year. They have now revealed their recommendations for 2022.

More than 500 evaluation criteria were taken into account, among other things with regard to the cuisine, the rooms, the location of the houses and of course the amenities and services in the spa and sauna areas. Also in focus in year two of the pandemic: hygiene protection. In other words: Are the hotel rooms disinfected regularly? How is the buffet organized? Are there any hygiene deficits in the spa?

The users of the wellness portal were able to vote between October 2020 and September 2021 on the hotels that performed best in advance. Based on a total of 93,775 votes, the best hotels have now been chosen. Four of the fifteen award-winning houses are in Germany, seven in Austria, three in Italy and one in Switzerland.

Wellness hotel with the best spa: “Edelweiss Salzburg Mountain Resort”

When it comes to spa, at the forefront: the third generation of the Hettegger family, the five-star hotel “Das Edelweiss”. The hotel, located a good 200 kilometers south-east of Munich, offers relaxation and recreation facilities on five levels and over 7,000 square meters. In 2019 the entire hotel was renovated and expanded. The cheapest offers start from 151 euros per person per night.

In second place in the “Best Spa” category, the wellness fans chose the “König Ludwig Wellness & Spa Resort” in Schwangau in the Bavarian Allgäu. Very close to the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle, hotel guests can look forward to wellness at the highest level – from 208 euros per person per night. Third place goes to the “Quellenhof Luxury Resort Passeier” in St. Martin in South Tyrol (from 223 euros).

The hotel with the best food is in Tyrol

The “Posthotel Achenkirch” received the award in the “Best Culinary” category. From 171 euros per person per night you can experience the largest bathing and sauna area in Tyrol and the hotel’s own 9-hole golf course. Also recommended: the 34 degrees warm brine outdoor pool, which offers a view of the surrounding mountain peaks, as the hotel testers praise.

According to the voting, the “Sonnenalp Resort” in Ofterschwang in Bavaria (from 329 euros) and the “Bergkristall” resort in Oberstaufen in the Allgäu (from 172 euros per person per night) also performed extremely well in terms of food.

Awarded for the best suite: “Jagdhof Wellnesshotel”

If you are looking for the ultimate best suite, the testers will also find it in Bavaria: in the “Jagdhof Wellness Hotel” in Röhrbach, around 25 kilometers north of Passau in the Bavarian Forest. Elaborately renovated and spruced up in 2014, the formerly simple inn is now one of the top addresses in southern Germany when it comes to wellness. The prices for one night and person start from 208 euros.

In second place in the “Suite” category is the “Nesslerhof” in Grossarl in the Salzburger Land (from 143 euros). Third place on the podium is secured by the “Preidlhof Luxury DolceVita Resort” in Naturno in South Tyrol (from 178 euros per person per night).

“Naturhotel Forsthofgut” wins in the “Best Location” category

The victory for the best location goes to the “Naturhotel Forsthofgut” (from 230 euros) in Leogang, two hours’ drive south-east of Munich. This is followed by the “Mohr Life Resort” in the well-known Tyrolean ski resort of Lermoos and the “Alpin Panorama Hotel Hubertus” in Olang in the Italian Dolomites (from 169 euros in the cheapest package per person and night).

Service award for the “Stanglwirt”

Right at the top of the “Best Service” category is the “Stanglwirt” organic and wellness resort in Going in Tyrol (from 170 euros). Especially exciting for fans of the doctor series “Der Bergdoktor”: Many scenes of the successful ZDF format are filmed in Going and the surrounding area.

The “Alpenresort Schwarz” is located around 120 kilometers to the west. The hotel testers also praise this hotel for its excellent service. However, at least 233 euros per night are due here. The third-placed hotel in the “Service” category is even more expensive: the “Tschuggen Grand Hotel” in Arosa in Graubünden. The night is available here from 290 euros.
