Chris de Burgh was a guest at “Wetten, dass ..?” Seven times. In an interview, he reveals why, in his opinion, he was allowed to come back so often.

During his more than 40 year music career, Chris de Burgh (73, “The Lady in Red”) was a total of seven times in “Wetten, dass ..?” to guest. Shortly before the one-time show revival on Saturday (November 6th) in Nuremberg, the Irish superstar speaks to the news agency spot on news about cult presenter Thomas Gottschalk (71) and a very special appearance in the entertainment show. In his opinion, this is the reason why de Burgh was repeatedly invited to the show.

“I remember having breakfast with him and recently met him on the street,” says the 73-year-old about Thomas Gottschalk. “He’s a very tall guy.” The legendary entertainer was always “a great supporter” and “one of the first to play my songs” – “all those years ago at (radio station) Bayern 3.”

Appearance with daughter Rosanna attracted 15.5 million people in front of the screens

In 2004 Gottschalk welcomed “Wetten, dass ..?” de Burgh, who was almost the same age, together with his daughter Rosanna Davison (37, “When Dreams Come True”), the then reigning “Miss World”. The “Don’t Pay The Ferryman” interpreter still fondly remembers his father-daughter performance 17 years ago. “I wrote a song called ‘Here For You’ and I sang it with Rosie.”

When analyzing the audience numbers, the broadcaster later found that 15.5 million people had seen the touching guitar performance on the TV sofa. For another act, the number of viewers slipped to six million. “That’s why I was invited seven times, because the numbers went up,” says the Argentine-born musician with certainty.

One-time “Wetten, dass ..?” Edition without Chris de Burgh

Chris de Burgh will not appear in the “Wetten, dass ..?” Edition from Nuremberg this time. On the guest list of the eagerly anticipated live event, which Thomas Gottschalk will again unite with fellow presenter Michelle Hunziker (44), are top-class players such as Helene Fischer (37, “Rausch”), Udo Lindenberg (75) and the duo Björn Ulvaeus (76) and Benny Andersson (74) from ABBA (“I Still Have Faith In You”). Joko Winterscheidt (42) and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf (38) are among the competition sponsors.

“Bet that..?” runs on Saturday from 8:15 p.m. on ZDF.
