Better Call Saul: Season 5 is coming to free TV – and the fans are angry

The 5th season of the acclaimed US series “Better Call Saul” is coming to ZDF – but nobody is happy: For inexplicable reasons, the public broadcaster is moving the free TV premiere of the high-quality production even deeper into the night.

At 2:30 a.m. on the night of Sunday (August 7th) to Monday, the fifth season celebrates its sad start on German free TV far outside the broadcasting times relevant to the audience. Although the episodes of 2020 are no longer absolutely fresh – not every fan of the AMC series also has a Netflix account or even watches content on the web.

“Better Call Saul”: TV premiere at an impossible time

Netflix customers are already in the final stretches of the 6th and final season of “Better Call Saul.” But if you don’t have access to the paid streaming service and have been patiently waiting for the 5th season to be broadcast on free TV, you’ll now get an additional setback.

The previous season already had a frighteningly bad slot at 0:30 a.m. – at 2:30 a.m. ZDF now ensures that almost nobody will follow the linear broadcast of the series. Fans of the production without a Netflix account are therefore upset again.

To make matters worse, it is now also clear that the episodes of “Better Call Saul” will not be found in the ZDF media library. What is certain, however, is that premium series material is linearly wasted in the night program.

Update from August 8th, 2022: In the original version of the news, we wrote that it was still open whether the series would be included in the ZDF media library. Now it has been confirmed to us that it will not end up in the streaming offer of the public broadcaster.
