Please note, the following details the plot of episode 8 of the final season of Better Call Saul, available on Netflix. If you haven’t seen it yet, and don’t want to know anything about its content, then you are strongly recommended to stop reading this article now.

The outcome of the duel was hardly in doubt, and yet episode 8 generated a lot of stress among Better Call Saul fans. But it was indeed Gus Fring who killed his rival Lalo Salamanca during the resumption episode of the final season of the series, broadcast in France every week on Netflix.

On this occasion, the interpreter of the drug trafficker Tony Dalton returned for our colleagues from variety on Lalo’s final appearance in the Breaking Bad prequel, revealing that he was not disappointed to learn of the character’s death, but on the contrary felt grateful to have been able to play a “role as one rarely finds” to use his own words.

During this summit clash between the two villains of the series, the outcome of which ultimately smiled on Gus (“in nine out of ten cases, Lalo would have won” nevertheless specifies Tony Dalton), the 47-year-old actor also reveals the importance of this scene in the evolution of Gus Fring, as he appears next in Breaking Bad:

I discussed with Giancarlo this moment when Gus fears being shot by Lalo, and we don’t see that in Breaking Bad. We feel like a kind of weakness or Achilles heel. Lalo’s death allows Gus to become the person he will be in Breaking Bad.

Remember that the main protagonists of Breaking Bad Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) will appear in one of the last episodes of Better Call Saul (including the broadcast of final series is scheduled for August 15). Before them, other Breaking Bad characters held more or less secondary roles in this prequel, such as Gus Fring and Mike Ehrmantraut, or even Hank Schrader and Tuco Salamanca.

Broadcast on the AMC cable channel in the United States, the sixth and final season of Better Call is offered in France every Tuesday exclusively on Netflix.
