Headphones that offer an Open Ear design, but do not use the bone conduction dear to the company Shokz. They offer up to 7 hours of battery life on one charge.

The company Shokz, leader in bone conduction headphones and formerly called AfterShokz, presents new headphones: the OpenFit. The company is moving out of its chosen field, since unlike the OpenRun Pro for example, these headphones do not use bone conduction. Indeed, they are air-conducting type speakers.

Comfort… and stability?

These OpenFit remain headphones with an open-ear design. They take the form of a hook around the ear. Shokz specifies that “this one is attached to an ear cushion placed above the auditory canal”.

In order to guarantee comfort even during prolonged wear and adaptation to all ear shapes, the core of the ear cushion is made of a double layer of liquid silicone. The earhook system (which passes over the auricle) incorporates a flexible memory of 0.7 mm. The entire device weighs just 8.3 grams (the charging case weighs 57 grams).

For the more athletic, Shokz ensures that it is possible to run and even jump without fear of losing the headphones.

Audio features and technologies

Regarding the sound aspect, the OpenFit mobilizes an 18 x 11 mm speaker. Naturally, the concept of free ears allows the user to stay in touch with the outside world. This characteristic is reinforced by a traditional technology AI Call Noise Cancellation (cancellation of surrounding noise by AI).

In terms of acoustics, the brand promises “premium” audio quality thanks to its DirectPitch technology (its function is to manage the balance between treble, midrange and bass). The proprietary Shokz OpenBass algorithm takes care of improving low frequencies. Finally, the Shokz application offers predefined, but also customizable equalization modes. In addition, note that audio playback and calls can be controlled directly via the touchpads integrated into the headset.

For the purely technical aspect, Shokz reports a frequency response of 50 Hz – 16 kHz, a frequency band of 2402 MHz – 2480 MHz and a speaker sensitivity of 95.5 dB. The connection is via Bluetooth 5.2.

Up to 7 hours of battery life

Regarding the battery and autonomy, the headphones have a 58 mAh battery, the charging case, 600 mAh. The company promises up to 7 hours of listening time on a single charge for the headphones, and up to 28 hours with the charging case. Plus, the quick charge feature allows for 1 hour of listening time in 5 minutes of charging.

Finally, note that the headphones are IP54 certified and covered by a two-year warranty. These OpenFit are now available in two colors, black or beige and they cost 199.99 euros.
