Beware of fraud – fake mails threaten legal proceedings

Salzburg’s police warn of fake mails, which have already found fertile ground among the people of Salzburg. It threatens to go to court.

Several Salzburg victims have already contacted the police and filed a complaint: in the fake e-mails sent on behalf of the police, the strangers threaten legal proceedings as a result of child pornography, pedophilia and cyber pornography. A period of 48 hours is given. Those affected should respond within this time. Namely to the address “[email protected]”. Other alleged police addresses with the e-mail ending “@polizei.gv.at” were also used. The Salzburg police are now asking for caution and are trying to provide clarity with the following tips: • Check the text carefully. The e-mail addresses given are not official addresses of the authorities. The spelling of names often differs, the sender is often from another country. Attach (PDF) and do not open them if in doubt: malware is often hidden in there • Do not disclose any personal data • Do not reply to questionable letters and do not respond to claims • If you are already a victim: File a complaint with the next police station
