The richest man in the world announced the arrival of his in-house generative AI called Grok not even a week ago. A chatbot which is the achievement of a new company xAI founded by Elon Musk this summer in order to be able to compete with ChatGPT. And if we do not yet know if this AI will do better than that of OpenAI, we can in any case be sure that the pirates quickly sensed a vein to exploit with this release!
A problem on the App Store as well as on the Play Store
Be careful, if the Grok chatbot has caught your attention, so have scammers, who have taken advantage of it to deploy fake applications using the identity of its manufacturer. The site Intego took a look at the two major application stores Play Store and App Store. And in both cases, he came across counterfeits.
For those who navigate the iOS world, he has been able to observe the deployment of numerous applications improperly using the company name “xAI”. So, if you come across one of these applications, move on:
- xAI – Chatgbt Open Chat-Bot AI;
- E-GPT: xAi Chat Assistant;
- X AI – xAI Chatbot Assistant;
- X-Ai.
The problem is the same on Android, including a version of the famous X AI – xAI Chatbot Assistant adapted to the Play Store, which features a logo reminiscent of the late Twitter blue bird.

However, research carried out on the Microsoft Store side has, for the moment, shown that there are no fraudulent applications in this environment. Was the Redmond firm more responsive than in the case of the fake Ledger Live application?
In any case, it is necessary to be on your guard. And all the more so since, as a reminder, it has nowhere been announced by X.com or Elon Musk that this generative AI could arrive in the form of an application. At the moment, Grok is only in the beta phase. And once this step has been taken, it will only be accessible to Premium+ subscribers of X.
