The Banque de France warns of the existence of false checks where it appears to be the issuer’s bank. It recalls that individuals cannot hold an account with the Banque de France.
Fake banker scam, fake mortgage, fake passbooks, and now fake checks? In a publication this Tuesday, February 21, the Banque de France draws the attention of individuals and businesses to the existence of false checks in circulation, written on free paperon which it appears as the issuer’s bank.
Clearly, the scammers would try to pay using checks written on free paper, but giving false information, in particular about the issuing bank, which would be the Banque de France. However, the latter claims to have had to reject several formulas drawn up on free paper. In effect, these fake checks were rejected for incorrect coordinatessince the associated account does not exist.
Individuals do not have a Banque de France account
While recalling that the drafting of a check on free paper is possible if the latter includes all the mandatory legal information, the Banque de France reminds that the check must however be placed on an existing account. However, individuals can no longer, since 2021, hold an account with the Banque de France, details the institution.
The Banque de France, which recalls that these checks cannot be paid under any circumstances, recommends that individuals not write such writings on plain paper to pay their bills and that professionals not accept such easily recognizable checks as payment of their invoices or receivables.
