It is better to avoid filing a complaint if you yourself are wanted by the police. This is what a 47-year-old man learned to his cost who presented himself at the Béziers police station on January 29, even though he had not served a sentence for which he had previously been convicted.

This is what law enforcement calls a lucky arrest. On January 29, a 47-year-old man was arrested after going to the Béziers police station to file a complaint. It was during his hearing that the police officers responsible for registering his complaint understood that the man in question was wanted. As revealed by our colleagues from France 3, the forty-year-old was sentenced in 2021, but had never served his sentence.

Sentenced to eight months in prison

After this discovery, the individual lost his temper and threatened to kill one of the agents. Placed in police custody, he reiterates these threats. As a result, he was tried immediately on January 31 and sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment. His past not working in his favor, the court orders his continued detention.

His criminal record already included nine convictions, including several for “threats, insults and violence against a person holding public authority”. For similar acts, Article 433-5 of the Penal Code provides for up to one year of imprisonment and a fine of 15,000 euros when the acts are committed by a single person and 2 years of imprisonment and a fine of 30,000 euros. if they are committed by several people.
