Biathlete Schwaiger – Julia has her smile back

Julia Schwaiger is only a spectator at the Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof. After a messed-up season so far and thoughts about the end of her career, she now wants to attack again.

Biathlon Julia Schwaiger didn’t have much reason to be happy this season. The after-effects of a corona disease bothered her, as did the flu, which she had to deal with immediately after Covid. “I then wanted to start training from zero to one hundred, but my body couldn’t handle it,” the 27-year-old explains to “Krone”. The woman from Saalfeld fought and bit her teeth. But it was in vain: Schwaiger was not considered for the World Championships in Oberhof. After so many setbacks within a short period of time, doubts arose. Does it all still make sense? “It makes you think about the end of your career. You just get older,” she admits openly. However, Schwaiger is a fighter – and she didn’t want to give up that easily. Especially since all the experts attest to her great potential, with seven medals at the Junior World Championships she is still the most successful Austrian of all time. And has also been in the top 10 several times in the World Cup.Schwaiger: “Lisa Hauser is a competition sow” This is exactly where she draws hope. “I’m fully motivated again now,” the woman from Saalfelden wants to attack again at the IBU Cup in Canmore (Can) at the end of the month. Before that, she follows the World Championships from home. “I’m very excited about Simon Eder,” she keeps her fingers crossed. “Lisa Hauser is a competition sow. You can certainly trust her to do everything.”Christoph Nister
