You can get many bicycle lamps for little money – but the cheap models are rarely good. We show you four recommended devices.
Bike lights shouldn’t just be on your bike because it’s compulsory. Good bicycle lighting can literally save lives. Forget the old dynamo lights here though. As a rule, these lamps are far too weak – and at the latest at the traffic light you have a problem with this lighting, since you are no longer seen by other road users. A good battery-powered bicycle lamp is significantly more powerful and lights up even when you are not moving the bike. Stiftung Warentest has tested more than 10 models, we will show you the most interesting bicycle lamps of the test here in brief. If you are looking for more information about the products shown or further information, we recommend that you take a look at our extensive buying guide.
How to protect your bike
Bicycle lights ensure safety on the road. You should also secure the bike itself – with a good bike lock. Because bicycles, especially e-bikes, are welcome stolen goods. In the following table we show you the most interesting locks tested by Stiftung Warentest. Here, too, we offer you many details about the individual products as well as further information in a comprehensive purchase guide, for example which features you can use to identify good bicycle locks, what types of locks there are and what type is suitable.
Switch to an e-bike
Many cyclists are currently switching to e-bikes – or at least thinking about it. An e-bike has clear advantages: commuters can get to work comfortably, mountain bikers can cover longer and steeper routes in the mountains and occasional cyclists do not have to torture themselves on tours with friends. But an e-bike is also ideal for quick errands, for example to the supermarket.
In the following table you can see three top recommendations from the tested e-bikes, which are tailored to very different types of bikes. If you would like to find out more about these and other e-bikes in the test, you should take a look at our detailed e-bike buying guide.
