The resolution will contain the necessary concrete steps towards peace in Ukrainesaid Baerbock. She called stopping Russian attacks, protecting civilians, respecting Ukraine’s territorial integrity through Russian troops’ withdrawal, and accountability for crimes committed. “This is the way to peace,” and this is what the world has been expecting from Russia for a year, stressed the German Foreign Minister.
The vote on the resolution was scheduled for late Thursday evening CET after dozens of speeches by high-level speakers. The initiators of the resolution want to build on similar voting results from last year. In October, for example, 143 states opposed annexations by Moscow that violate international law in a similar vote.
“No one but Russia wants this war. We want peace, Ukraine, the world needs peace”said Baerbock. The UN General Assembly will decide on this. “We are using all our diplomatic efforts to ensure that the world raises its voice loud and clear today, so that it is finally heard in Moscow.”
