“Climate change is the existential threat to humanity,” said Biden on Thursday evening (local time) at a town hall event on CNN. He was confident that Congress would soon find a compromise on his proposed budget and infrastructure package. This also included important climate protection measures, said Biden. He will also campaign for progress at the World Climate Conference in Glasgow.
When asked by a citizen, Biden said that there was resistance in the Senate to a planned measure of his infrastructure package to promote renewable energies in the amount of 150 billion US dollars. However, the amount could possibly be used for other subsidies for environmentally friendly technologies. This could save “a significant amount of money and, as a result, a significant amount of energy,” said Biden. The promotion of such technologies will also create many new jobs.
For months now, Biden has been promoting two central projects of his tenure – a large package for infrastructure investments and, in connection with the budget, a large expansion of social benefits. The Republicans reject the trillion dollar proposals of the Democrat – and even some of his party friends are partially reluctant.
