Bielefeld wins in the relegation battle: Hansa Rostock cannot stop the fall

Bielefeld wins the relegation battle
Hansa Rostock cannot stop the crash

Arminia Bielefeld is making progress in the table basement of the 2nd Bundesliga to leave the danger of relegation behind. Meanwhile, the need is growing in Rostock, in Magdeburg there is nothing to get for FC Hansa. Paderborn got into trouble late at home against Fürth.

SC Paderborn – SpVgg Greuther Furth 3: 2 (1: 0)

SpVgg Greuther Fürth missed an important step in the relegation battle in the second division. The cloverleaf lost 2:3 (0:1) at SC Paderborn and must continue to tremble. The distance to the relegation place of the ex-Bundesliga team is only four points.

Ron Schallenberg (13th) gave Paderborn the lead. Florent Muslija (61st) and Sirlord Conteh (76th) followed up. Dickson Abiama (82′) and Branimir Hrgota (87′) shortened late for Fürth. The SC ended its negative series of four games without a win, but the hopes of promotion are rather low, even if the SC was able to make up two points to the top. Hamburger SV in third place are already seven points short.

The Fürth kept the game open after the early deficit. Armindo Sieb even managed the supposed equalizer, but the goal was withdrawn after video evidence of a previous foul by Hrgota. At 0: 2, Fürth’s substitute keeper Leon Schaffran, who represented the sick Andreas Linde, looked very bad. He let Muslija’s free kick slip through his hands. After Hrgota’s goal, the guests pushed for an equalizer.

Holstein Kiel – Arminia Bielefeld 2: 3 (1: 2)

Arminia Bielefeld is clearly on the upswing under Uwe Koschinat. With a 3-2 (2-1) win at Holstein Kiel, East Westphalia celebrated their second success in their third game since the coach took office and climbed to 14th place. The Storks remain in secure midfield. Frederik Jäkel (11′), Robin Hack (29′) and Masaya Okugawa (55′) scored for the guests, who once again put in a determined performance. But Holstein never gave up and shortened the lead with Steven Skrzybski (32′) and Holmbert Fridjonsson (67′).

Bielefeld was very active in an entertaining game right from the start and initially developed more power in the decisive zone. The hosts around coach Marcel Rapp put away the setbacks and had a great chance to equalize after the 2:3, but the substitute Kwasi Wriedt was disturbed at the last moment. In the final phase, Bielefeld withdrew far and tried to save the lead over time.

1. FC Magdeburg – Hansa Rostock 3:0 (1:0)

Hansa Rostock is still sliding towards relegation under the new coach Alois Schwartz. The Mecklenburg lost in the first game with Schwartz on the sideline without a chance 0:3 (0:1) at direct competitor 1. FC Magdeburg and got stuck in the penultimate place in the table. The FCM jumped to eleventh place and moved away from the relegation place by five points.

Amara Conde (29′) and Jason Ceka (60’/70′) scored in front of 26,480 fans for Magdeburg, who celebrated their third win in the past five games. Hansa, who parted ways with coach Patrick Glöckner about two weeks ago, has been without a win for six games.

The hosts were the more active team from the start, Conde scored his first goal of the season after a weak clearance by Rostock defender Ryan Malone. From the 57th minute Rostock had to act outnumbered after a yellow-red card against John Verhoek, Ceka then crowned his good performance with a brace.
