Flick should decide by the start of the European Championship

The interest in Hansi Flick as successor to Joachim Löw on the part of the DFB is well known. It is not finally clear whether the Bayern coach would like to work again for the national soccer team. DFB director Oliver Bierhoff is confident.

DFB director Oliver Bierhoff is in good spirits about Hansi Flick’s commitment as national coach. “We deliberately didn’t intensify it particularly well before the championship of Bayern. Now we can intensify it a bit. I’m always confident and I know the importance of the national team for him,” said Bierhoff at a European Championship workshop.

“You can’t announce anything today,” added Bierhoff. The 53-year-old would like “that we did it all before the European Championship”. The tournament begins on June 11th, with the Germans’ first game two days later against the reigning world champion France.

The national team director spoke of “good talks” with Flick, who prematurely terminated his head coach contract with the German record champions at the end of the season. He has an “incredibly good and close relationship” with Flick, added Bierhoff: “That is very trusting. Of course we speak and the discussions are very good. But it is no secret that Hansi is an interesting man and that other clubs are very interested and associations. ” Bierhoff worked with Flick from 2006 to 2014 when he was Löw’s assistant on the national team.

The Munich “Abendzeitung” reported on Monday that Flick will receive a three-year contract with the DFB starting in the summer until the 2024 European Championship at home. The 56-year-old recently asked Bayern to terminate his contract, which ran until 2023. The club fulfilled his wish and has already signed a successor in Julian Nagelsmann from RB Leipzig.
