The Thaumaturge, which has similarities with The Witcher, unfortunately has sad news to tell us. It’s a dark day for those who have been looking forward to it.
It won’t be long before 2023 comes to an end, and boy, what a year. In terms of releases, we were treated to Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, the Resident Evil 4 remake and many more. Now we’re getting back to a slightly calmer pace, which will be good for the wallet. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be anything in December. Moreover, The Thaumaturge was to be released during this period. However, there was a change of plan which will hurt some players.
The Thaumaturge suffers a postponement
First of all, what is The Thaumaturge? We are dealing with a narrative RPG that comes to us from the ovens of Fool’s Theory. It has been compared on multiple occasions to The Witcher franchise, particularly because of its initial premise. We play Wiktor (Victor) Szulski, a miracle worker (a miracle-working “magician” in reality and folklore) found in Warsaw in the early 1900s. He will help the population fight against their inner demons, the terrible Salutors. It can be more or less reminiscent of the role of a witcherhence the comparison.
In addition, it is interesting to note that the studio behind the game was formed by former CD Projekt employees. As we noted in our preview, this explains the many similarities with the Polish firm’s RPG. And in fact, Fool’s Theory is also responsible for the remake of The Witcher 1 under Unreal Engine 5. In short, at the same time, they are working on The Thaumaturge, which should normally arrive on December 5, 2023. However, it has suffered a small postponement.
It is now expected for February 20, 2024. This decision may hurt, because it finds itself propelled into the niche of titans like FF7 Rebirth, which is scheduled for February 29. However, the developers obviously had no choice . The PC release is to be delayed to “tweak the game and improve quality”. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are also planned for a later date. These are laudable reasons, and obviously, the press release was welcomed with open arms by the community who are not worried about the state of The Thaumaturge. At the same time, it is a very promising title.
A highly anticipated RPG
One of the first aspects of The Thaumaturge that is striking is its beauty. When we were able to get our hands on it last April, its artistic direction immediately caught our eye. So it’s a success on an artistic level, but what about the gameplay? At first glance, it looks very pleasant. The mix of investigations and combat is most enjoyable, and the city of Warsaw calls for exploration. The Slavic universe seems rich, dense, and we really want to delve into it. However, we will have to wait a little longer. See you in 2024.
