Big emotions at BVB too
FC Bayern gives Kane a special moment

Next week it starts again: The Bundesliga teams start in the DFB Cup or the Supercup. FC Bayern’s mood and sporting performance against Tottenham Hotspur are going well. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund bid farewell to their old coach. And champions Leverkusen almost stumble.
German football record champions Bayern Munich have gained further confidence six days before the start of their competitive matches. The team of new coach Vincent Kompany beat Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 (3-1) and showed a strong performance, especially in the first half.
After the early deficit through Dejan Kulusevski (1st), Dayot Upamecano (16th), Serge Gnabry (31st) and Thomas Müller (44th) scored for the guests, who had already beaten Spurs in Seoul on their tour of Asia (2:1). In the second half, the flow of the game was somewhat lost after a few substitutions, and Kulusevski (61st) reduced the deficit for the hosts. In the final phase, striker Harry Kane, who moved from London to Munich a year ago, was substituted on to the applause of the Tottenham fans. After a season without a title, Bayern will start the new season on Friday in the DFB Cup against second division side SSV Ulm.
There is also applause at BVB
Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, is also starting the new season in good early form. The Bundesliga club celebrated a convincing dress rehearsal with a 2-0 (2-0) win against Aston Villa. In front of around 81,365 spectators in the sold-out Signal Iduna Park, Emre Can (33rd minute) and Julian Brandt (35th) scored against the English first division club to secure a well-deserved victory. For the Champions League finalists, it was the last test before their first competitive match next Saturday in the DFB Cup in Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion against regional league club Phönix Lübeck.
Pascal Groß (Brighton), Waldemar Anton (Stuttgart) and Yan Couto (Manchester City) were three new signings in the starting eleven. Even without the still injured new striker Serhou Guirassy (Stuttgart), coach Nuri Sahin’s team, which had only returned the day before from the nine-day training camp in Bad Ragaz (Switzerland), put in a promising performance in the first half, but noticeably slacked off after the restart.
The match took place as part of the local club’s official season opening. The farewell to Edin Terzic was an emotional highlight. The former Dortmund football coach, who had given up his position at the end of the season, was greeted with much applause.
Leverkusen still struggling
Meanwhile, not everything is going well for the German champions. New signing Jeanuel Belocian saved double winners Bayer Leverkusen from a botched dress rehearsal for the upcoming Bundesliga season. The French U21 international, signed from Stade Rennes, scored the final goal to make it 1:1 (78th minute) against test opponents Real Betis Sevilla. In front of almost 30,000 spectators in the BayArena, Juanmi had given the Spanish first division team the lead in the 52nd minute.
Although the team of successful coach Xabi Alonso was more committed than in the weak performance last Wednesday in London against Arsenal FC (1:4), they remained winless again. For the Werkself, it was the last test before the first competitive match next Saturday (8.30 p.m.) in the Supercup against runners-up VfB Stuttgart.
Jonathan Tah’s performance was particularly noteworthy. Although the international player has been considered a new signing for FC Bayern for weeks, he was in the starting eleven. This means that the move to Munich seems to have failed. There is currently a lot of evidence to suggest that the 28-year-old will be entering his tenth season at Bayer.
After the match, which was part of Leverkusen’s official season opening, there was a penalty shootout. Both teams wanted to simulate the real-life situation for knockout games. Leverkusen won 3-1 after three penalties were saved by goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky.
