Big first for Miss France: an elected mother!

It is a totally unique fact. This Saturday, March 18, a mother was elected for the very first time in the history of the beauty contest. This is Miss Southern Alps, who won the crown at the age of 22.

The Miss France contest is definitely changing, in a good way. A veritable institution since the popular success of its first edition in 1920, the beauty contest has since prospered… to the point of experiencing its share of controversy in recent years. Blame it on an institution that has struggled to evolve with the times. Previously, each contender for the title had to meet very specific criteria: be officially single, childless and aged between 18 and 24, without a tattoo and measure at least 170 centimeters. Highly discriminatory criteria that have changed recently.

Which led to a totally unique fact this Saturday, March 18. During the election of Miss Alpes du Sud, which took place at the convention center of Digne-les-Bains and which included 14 contenders… a mother won the crown for the very first time in history. This young woman, aged 22, is called Inès Chicot Roussel. And his election will make it possible to move the lines a little more.

The person concerned, who could not believe her eyes, let her joy explode during an interview with our colleagues from the newspaper La Provence. “You can be a woman in her own right, mom and miss. To be the first mother to be elected miss is a big step in the world of misses. It goes down in history so it’s a great first. I’m proud, it’s a big step, we’re turning a corner”. For her part, Lydia Podossenoff, the regional delegate welcomed the performance of the new Miss. “Something amazing happened. Ines is 22 years old. She is a full mom. Her profile in the middle of the fourteen candidates did not shock at all, she had her place. Electing a mom is really a big leap!”.
