big leak on this highly appreciated license!

It looks like Sony is preparing to bring back a franchise that is still young, but which already has its fans. A discovery teases the arrival of at least one new PS5 game or maybe even more?

Unfortunately for Sony Interactive Entertainment, a surprise just leaked ahead of time. The Japanese manufacturer has taken an important step which promises the return of a very nice license. An IP just waiting to grow, but in what way(s)? This new project could indeed be a PS5 game, but not only. Several other avenues are possible.

PlayStation wants to bring back this chewable mascot

After a mixed PlayStation Showcase, PS5 gamers are eagerly awaiting Sony’s next conference. Dozens and dozens of games are in development but have yet to be announced. What if a new speech took place in a few weeks? At a dedicated event or, in the worst case, at the Game Awards 2023 for example? At Sony, it is activated.

Our colleagues from Gematsu noticed that Sony Interactive Entertainment had made new trademark filings on August 25th. Right during Gamescom 2023 which ended this weekend. The two records registered with the European Union Intellectual Property Office concern Astro Bot. The little chewable robot that was created by Team Asobi and (late) SIE Japan Studio. A mascot that has everything of a great and which has been at least seen by more than 40 million PS5 players thanks to the free game Astro’s Playroom present on all consoles.

Taking a closer look at the repositories, we can assume that a new Astro Bot PS5 game is well on the way. But that’s not the only potential project. Indeed, the categories in which the brand is placed also include virtual reality, augmented reality, mobile or even entertainment with films and series. Towards an Astro’s Playroom 2 on PS5, Astro Bot Rescue Mission 2 on PSVR 2 or an adaptation?

Astro Bot back on PS5 or PSVR 2?

Astro Bot back on PS5? Since 2021, at least, Team Asobi has been working on a 3D action game and was looking for a level designer at the time. His role ? Design levels with good pacing and varied creative situations. Being able to inject humor into this secret app was also a requirement. In an interview, Nicolas Doucet, the boss of the studio, had also confirmed that he was working with the DualSense and his desire to continue to exploit new technologies. Astro Bot ticks all these boxes, especially since the family aspect will also obviously be an essential aspect of Team Asobi’s productions.

The little blue, white and black robot remains a wonderful showcase for the PS5 DualSense controller, but above all gave an impressive demonstration of the first PSVR with Astro Bot Rescue Mission. How about an Astro Bot Rescue Mission 2 on PSVR 2? After an excellent launch, with big names such as Gran Turismo 7 Or Resident Evil Village, the helmet absolutely needs strong announcements so as not to return to the shadows. Considering the reception of Astro Bot Rescue Mission 1, this would be a very nice cartridge.

And on Twitter, gamers are ready to sign on for Astro’s return to PS5 or PlayStation VR 2. “I hope to see Astro Bot on PSVR 2 soon! »; “Astro’s Playroom has been one of my favorite platformers since Super Mario Odyssey in 2017. I’ve never played the VR game, but I want to get the PSVR 2 at some point. So when I’m ready, I hope there will be a new PS VR 2 game”; “Astro is a great title so hopefully that means new apps are coming”; “Yeeessss. Astro’s Playroom 2? »; “A full Astro Bot PS5 game with optional PSVR 2 compatibility would be a good choice” can we read on the social network.

About you, are you ready for Astro on PlayStation 5 and/or PlayStation VR 2?
