Big Little Lies: will there be a third season?

The second season of the award-winning hit series "Big Little Lies" celebrates its German free TV premiere. But what about further consequences?

The "Big Little Lies" series is one of the best in recent years and has received numerous awards. The main cast includes actresses Nicole Kidman (53), Reese Witherspoon (44), Shailene Woodley (28), Zoë Kravitz (31) and Laura Dern (53). In season two, Hollywood icon Meryl Streep (71) also strengthens the ensemble. There are two seasons from 2017 and 2019, each with seven episodes.

Busy Stars vs. the desire for more

Whether there will be a third season of "Big Little Lies" is currently completely open. Casey Bloys, the president of the US broadcaster HBO for which the series is being produced, already said in July 2019 that he considered it "unrealistic" to be able to shoot further episodes with the cast. After all, the actresses are "very busy". However, should they come to him one day and tell him that they had found a time window, he would give the go-ahead immediately.

The main actresses have always confirmed their interest in further episodes. In late June 2020, podcast "The Awardist" by US magazine "Entertainment Weekly" said Nicole Kidman, for example, that she would "play her character Celeste" for the rest of my life. Fans shouldn't give up hope even if they don't know when it might happen.

Reese Witherspoon also stated in the "Actors on Actors" series for "Variety" in June when the conversation with colleague Regina King (49, "Watchmen") came up with a possible third season "Big Little Lies": "Gosh! I hope it!" She describes the work on the series as one of the "most fulfilling creative experiences". It was "a dream" to work with her co-stars.

"Big Little Lies": Plot and broadcast on free TV

If you want to shorten the waiting time, you can do this with the seven episodes of the second season, which will be celebrating the German free TV premiere on VOX (or via TVNow) from Wednesday, August 5, 2020 (from 10:40 p.m.). The first six episodes are each broadcast in double episodes. The finale can be seen on August 26 at 10:25 p.m.

The second season begins after the turbulent events on the night of the charity event. The "Monterey Five" – Celeste (Kidman), Madeline (Witherspoon), Jane (Woodley), Bonnie (Kravitz) and Renata (Dern) – collect the shards of their loved ones and try to survive the situation. When Celeste's mother-in-law Mary Louise (Meryl Streep) appears, things get more complicated because she wants to find out what really happened to her son Perry (Alexander Skarsgard). Will the secret of the Monterey Five be revealed? Can you get your life back on track or do you break it?
