Big price drop for the electric Renault Megane E-Tech, which returns to the forefront


Launched in 2022, the electric Renault Megane E-Tech was very well received by the press. However, it has not yet achieved the expected commercial success. It must be said that it found itself in direct competition with the MG4, much more accessible, and the Tesla Model 3, larger and not necessarily more expensive.

In 2024, however, the Megane should finally prove competitive, on the one hand since the MG4 and Tesla Model 3 which are produced in China no longer have access to the ecological bonus, but also because Renault has finally decided to cut its margins . As expected, the manufacturer has updated the prices of its electric Megane on the occasion of the publication of the very well positioned prices of the Scenic E-Tech.

An electric Megane for only €30,000 bonus deducted

The drop is significant, since the price of the entry-level Megane E-Tech drops by €4,000, reaching a starting price of €34,000 excluding ecological bonus. The amount of the latter is currently €5,000, but should increase to €4,000 very soon, which would represent a purchase cost of €30,000.

At this price, the Megane E-Tech equilibre is equipped with the small useful 40 kWh battery, renamed Urban Autonomy (formerly EV40), and a 130 hp engine. However, it is possible from the first finishing level to opt for the 60 kWh battery, under the name Comfort Autonomy (formerly EV60), with a 220 hp engine. The requested extension is €4,000, i.e. a price starting from €38,000 excluding bonus. The range then increases from 300 km to a maximum of 454 km.

For the Techno and Iconic finishes, the price drop even reaches €4,500. These two versions are only available with the 60 kWh battery (Comfort autonomy). From now on, all versions are eligible for the ecological bonus, since they fall below the threshold of €47,000.

A significantly more aggressive positioning, but not without competition

The competing models of the electric Megane have not changed, but their prices have changed significantly. The MG4 remains less expensive than the Megane, from €29,990, but the loss of its bonus brings it closer to the French, with services still a notch below. The Volkswagen ID.3 has also just lowered its prices, which fall to €39,990 at entry level, with a range close to that of the Megane comfort range (434 km). Its prices for an equivalent version are therefore very close and, like the Renault, the Volkswagen retains its ecological bonus in 2024. Finally, the Tesla Model 3, sold from €42,990, but deprived of the bonus, remains around €5,000 more expensive. than a top-of-the-range Megane E-Tech (bonus deducted for the Renault). Certainly, the Model 3 does not box in the same category, but this difference should leave a little more room for maneuver for the Megane.
