While vacationing in Mexico for his wife’s fortieth birthday, Richard Gere was hospitalized at a facility there for a lung infection.
A bittersweet birthday. On February 16, Alejandra Gere shared a photo on her social media. Surrounded by her children on the beach, the Spanish businesswoman thanked those who had wished her a happy birthday for her 40th birthday. “After almost three weeks where everyone in our family was sick, today I finally feel much better”, assured the wife of Richard Gere. Indeed, if she did not specify the nature of her health problems and those which affected the rest of her family, the site people TMZ revealed that Richard Gere had fallen ill.
While parents and children were gathered at their vacation home in Nuevo Vallarta, in the Mexican state of Nayarit, the 73-year-old actor reportedly suffered from a severe cough. His health would have deteriorated sharply during the trip and would have pushed him to consult. Once hospitalized in a facility close to their residence, Richard Gere was diagnosed with a lung infection. Followed for one night, the actor received antibiotics for his pneumonia and would be released the next day. He would now be better.

Very discreet about his family life, the iconic American actor of the 1990s and 2000s seemed to be having a good time with family in Mexico. Since 2015, he has lived with Alejandra Silva, a Spanish advertiser, who has become Gere since their marriage in 2018. In February 2019, she gave birth to their first child together, Alexander, and in April 2020 to a second baby boy. Richard Gere had already become a dad at the age of 51.
