Lionsgate to produce reboot of fantasy action film ‘The Crow’ Bill Skarsgard will play the lead role in the feature film.
Makeup change for Bill Skarsgard! After playing the clown Pennywise in the new adaptation of It, the actor will reprise the role of Eric Draven in the reboot of The Crow.
The actor, who recently played Marquis Vincent de Gramont in John Wick 4 opposite a wild Keanu Reeves, will star alongside FKA Twigs, Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Frenchman Sami Bouajila and Jordan Bolger.
Adapted from the comics by James O’Barr, The Crow tells the story of Eric Draven and his fiancée who are killed by a gang after the couple’s car breaks down. Eric is resurrected by a raven and takes revenge on those who took his life and that of his love.
The feature film has been in the works for many years and several directors (Stephen Norrington, F. Javier Gutiérrez, Corin Hardy) and potential actors, including Jason Momoa and Luke Evans, have succeeded without success. But unlike previous attempts, this one is on track since the budget of 50 million dollars has already been validated.
The film will be directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell) and written by Oscar-nominated Zach Baylin for screenplay The Williams Method starring Will Smith.
In a press release taken by The Hollywood Reporterproducers Victor Hadida, Molly Hassell and John Jencks said:
“The original film has left an indelible mark on our culture. We are delighted to produce a new adaptation for today’s audiences. Rupert Sanders has brought a new dimension to create a contemporary universe to this timeless saga of love eternal, and we can’t wait to share this vision with audiences.”
The work of James O’Barr has already seen several adaptations: The Crow by Alex Proyas released in 1994 and led by Brandon Lee and its sequels, The City of Angels with Vincent Perez (1997), Salvation (2000) carried by Eric Mabius and Kirsten Dunst, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer with Edward Furlong and David Boreanaz. Without forgetting the television series broadcast at the end of the 1990s and hosted by Mark Dacascos.
The first adaptation led by Brandon Lee is considered a cult film, in particular because of the tragic story of the actor, who died on the set. During a shootout scene, Bruce Lee’s son was shot by a gun that should have been loaded with blanks.
The reboot is produced by Lionsgate.
