BigBug on Netflix: the incredible design of the robot Einstein


Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s new film on Netflix gives pride of place to endearing and wacky robots. How were they thought out, created and staged? Answers with the director and Pascal Molina, animatronic supervisor.

New film by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, BigBug is a satirical comedy set in 2045 in the midst of a revolt by highly intelligent androids ready to exterminate the human race. Behind closed doors, the feature film tells how a small group of people find themselves locked in a house in a small quiet pavilion by interior robots who hope to save these humans from the chaos outside. The residents are beginning to lose patience and their heads, under the bewildered gaze of the robots…

For the wacky robot Einstein, Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Pascal Molina, the animatronic supervisor, told Allociné how they thought up, designed and staged this impressive character, essential to the original story imagined by the director.
