Bike sharing company – Swiss Post sells bike sharing subsidiary Publibike – News

  • Swiss Post has sold its bike-sharing subsidiary Publibike.
  • Important investments are pending and Swiss Post wants to invest the necessary funds in its own core business.
  • The approximately 30 Publibike employees are to keep their jobs.

The future owners are the current Publibike boss Markus Bacher together with the Bernese bicycle specialist Thomas Binggeli and the IT entrepreneur Guido Honegger. Publibike will remain as a brand and the existing bike sharing networks will continue to operate.

The bike rental company Publibike was founded in 2011 by Postauto in cooperation with SBB and Rent a Bike. With its eight bike sharing networks, Publibike is now an integral part of the mobility offering in 35 Swiss municipalities.

Buyers with know-how

The bike-sharing company has to make important investments in digitization and infrastructure in order to continue to be successful in the market. The Post was therefore looking for strong and technically competent buyers who should prepare the company for the future.

“We are convinced that, thanks to the specialist knowledge and industry know-how of the three new owners, Publibike is still in good hands and can continue to develop well,” said Christian Plüss, Chairman of the Board of Directors and member of the Post Group Executive Board.
