Bill Cosby is released again: The conviction of the former comedy star for sexual assault is surprisingly overturned.

Bill Cosby (83) will be released from prison in a few hours, as reported by “People”, among others. The conviction of aggravated sexual assault has been overturned by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. The surprising verdict is based on an agreement with a prosecutor, because of which Cosby should not have been charged. The Supreme Court also banned further prosecution.

According to this, a public prosecutor previously involved in the case would have promised in 2005 not to lead criminal proceedings against Cosby if he testified in a civil case for compensation. In the 2015 indictment, however, the subsequent public prosecutor had resorted to the statements. Among other things, Cosby had stated that she had given the victim Andrea Constand anesthetic before sexual intercourse.

“Miscarriage of Justice”?

Phylicia Rashad (73), Cosby’s former colleague on the “Cosby Show”, reacts on Twitter with a photo of the smiling comedian and the words: “Finally !!! A terrible mistake is corrected – a miscarriage of justice is corrected!”

“This is fantastic news. We are very excited and would like to thank the highest court in Pennsylvania,” “Insider” also quotes a spokesman for Cosby to the court decision.

The TV star has been in custody since 2018 and should serve a sentence of at least three and a maximum of ten years. All applications for appeal and early release had so far been denied. He is said to have drugged and sexually assaulted Canadian university employee Andrea Constand in 2004. About 60 other women accuse Cosby of the same. He denies the allegations.
