Billie Eilish (18, "No Time To Die") took off her trademark at the start of her world tour in Miami, sending an important message to the world. The five-time Grammy winner and internationally acclaimed musician is known for wrapping her body in baggy clothes. So far, this has been seen as a kind of statement against the beauty craze that numerous female pop stars represent. At her concert in Miami, however, Eilish now showed a different side – and not without reason.
"I feel your stare, your disapproval"
Eilish played a two and a half minute video on the screen of the American Airlines Arena in which she slowly got rid of her sweatshirt. From the off, she presented a text:
"Do you really know me? You have opinions about my views, my music, my clothes, my body. Some people hate what I wear, some people love it. Some people use it to shame others, some people use it to to be ashamed of myself. But I feel your looks, always. And nothing I do goes unobserved. I feel your stare, your disapproval or your sigh of relief – if I live by it, I will never be able to move. "
Then Eilish was seen on the canvas in a tight black top. An unusual sight that the fans in the videos, that circulate from the scene on the Internet, freaked out. But it wasn't over yet. The 18-year-old asked further: "Would you prefer if I were smaller? Weaker? Larger? Do you want me to be quiet? My shoulders provoke you? My chest? Is it my belly? My hip? The body with to whom I was born is not what you wanted? "
She will never be able to please everyone
The moment of self-empowerment that the musician celebrates with her act is impressive. Mainly because of her words: "If I wear what is comfortable, I am not a woman." Let her drop the covers, she will be insulted. "Even if you never saw my body, you rated it." This was followed by the rhetorical question of whether Eilish's "value is based only on your perception". "Or is your opinion about me not my responsibility?"
In the end, the 18-year-old also pulled the top over her head while she, wearing only her bra, dipped into dark water. The singer is celebrated for her message on social media.
