Not a 1,000,000,000 euro man for FC Bayern
One billion euros! FC Barcelona put a historically high price tag on their 18-year-old super talent. This is also bad news for FC Bayern, who wanted to steal the youngster from his opponent. At Barça, Pedri should now mature into the “new” Iniesta.
Even Lionel Messi should be amazed at the huge price tag for the super talent Pedri. One billion euros, for an 18-year-old – with the historically high release clause in the new contract of his hopeful, FC Barcelona is entering a new dimension. Messi’s was once at 700 million euros.
But what makes Pedri so special? This exceptional talent, who has already developed into an indispensable strategist for the Catalans, has a great future – says none other than club legend Andres Iniesta. The technically talented young star with calm on the ball and a precise passing game is considered the “new” Iniesta.
The long-running Spanish football player only missed one league game last season, played through all the games for the national team at the EM this summer as if he had been there for years – and shortly afterwards stormed into the final at the Olympic Games with Spain. Of course he was on the field in all games in Japan.
FC Bayern goes away empty-handed
Pedri, whose real name is Pedro Gonzalez Lopez, is set to become the face of a club that is in the midst of upheaval after the end of the Messi era and due to drastic financial problems. It is not for nothing that Barça is equipping its “DreamTeen” with a contract until 2026 – and the highest fixed purchase price in the club’s history. “It’s done”, the Catalan club celebrated the extension on social media with a video.
With that, FC Bayern has to bury its dream of being able to lure the youngster to the Isar. Because of the precarious financial situation in Barcelona, Munich had hoped for one or the other bargain – including Pedri. As the Spanish newspaper “Sport” recently reported, the German record champions followed the events of the opponent from Spain with great interest and wanted to take the opportunity next summer to meet the 18-year-old and other key players of the Catalans such as Frenkie de Jong, Sergino Dest and Marc -André ter Stegen to poach. According to the report, FC Bayern had already contacted individual players and signaled their interest. Again and again in the past the people of Munich were said to be interested in the players mentioned.
In 2019, the then 16-year-old moved from UD Las Palmas to Barcelona, was awarded directly and made an impressive development after his return in the first season for the Catalans. Last season he had matured to become a regular at Barça and played for the Spanish national team in both the European Championship and the Olympics. Its market value is now 80 million euros – a junk price compared to the astronomical exit clause.
