Schaeffler sets the bar higher

The trend reversal from combustion to e-mobility is causing problems for many car suppliers. Not so with Schaeffler. The S-Dax company expects an order boom in the field of electromobility and is raising its own forecast.

The automotive supplier Schaeffler is raising its own forecast for future orders in e-mobility significantly. "From 2022 we expect annual orders in the order of 2 to 2.5 billion euros," said Matthias Zink, Schaeffler Board Member for Automotive Technologies, in an interview with "Automobilwoche".

Most recently, the supplier had spoken of a volume between 1.5 and 2 billion euros annually. "We will exceed this value in 2020 despite the corona pandemic," said Zink.

Among other things, on behalf of a new customer, the S-Dax company wants to go into series production with electric motors for hybrid modules and transmissions as well as with all-electric axle drives. Zink does not want to name the customer, but "it is a well-known German vehicle manufacturer."

In addition, the supplier now also offers electric motor applications in the heavy-duty sector. "When you see the CO2 and NOx requirements that the truck industry has to deal with, now is the right time to offer more innovative products on the market," explained Zink. Schaeffler received the order from a US customer, and "promising discussions" are ongoing with interested parties in Europe.

Despite his own offers for the classic combustion engine, the manager sees the focus on e-mobility: “We are clearly transforming ourselves in the direction of e-mobility and want to become the preferred technology partner for our customers. We're on the right track here. "
