Billy Markus, co-founder of Dogecoin, would only hold 220,000 DOGE

Billy Markus would only own 220,000 DOGE

Crypto-canines made the buzz in 2021. Elon Musk has also well helped to the push of the DOGE by its many tweets on the subject. However, the ones that are often overlooked are the co-founders of Dogecoin. Indeed, the latter came from a fork of Litecoin (LTC) in 2013 and was created at the time as a joke.

However, the joke has become very serious and the DOGE is now capitalized at several tens of billions of dollars. Thus, Billy Markus, one of the two co-founders of Dogecoin with Jackson Palmer, wanted to clarify things on Twitter. The one who calls himself Shibetoshi Nakamoto clarified that he was not speaking on behalf of DOGE.

Billy Markus also lets us know that he would only have 220,000 DOGE, or less than 35,000 € at the current price. When you compare these 220,000 DOGEs to the 132 billion in circulation, that represents barely 0.000 1% of the total.

Markus adds that he is no longer on the project. He is indeed a simple member of the community and he will always defend those who actively work around the crypto-canine.

Finally, he declares that he does not like those who do nothing to make the crypto ecosystem better, implied the “trolls” who overste the Dogecoin. It picks up on one of his remarks from last summer where Markus claimed that cryptocurrencies can ruin naive investors.

Billy Markus prefers to abandon Dogecoin (DOGE) and cryptocurrencies

If he is no longer on the Dogecoin project, what is Shibetoshi Nakamoto doing today? A priori, he is not ready to create another crypto project. That’s what he announced, also on Twitter. Markus adds that he has a lot of respect for the developers who continue to keep certain projects alive.

Billy Markus finally specifies that he did not, it seems, not appreciated some criticism of him. Perhaps this is one of the reasons he prefers to leave cryptocurrency aside.

In other words, we don’t really know what Billy Markus is doing today and all the guesses are there. Starting with that of a massive sale of DOGE when he was at his highest, which would explain why he only has 220,000 DOGEs. But nothing confirms this to be true.

What future for Dogecoin (DOGE)?

After a crazy year 2021, Dogecoin seems have stabilized since last summer. Elon Musk tweets less on the subject and he mostly suffered competition from the enemy brother, the Shiba Inu (SHIB).

However, while the cryptocurrency meme had no plans other than to entertain, the developers seem want to give certain guarantees of seriousness to DOGE. We also know that Tesla could eventually accept this crypto-asset as a means of payment.

Interoperability with Ethereum (ETH) is desired by the same Billy Markus, in particular with the objective of using the DOGE for the non-fungible tokens (NFTs) market. Finally, Dogecoin has just published its first roadmap. Is crypto-canine finally going to become a serious project?
