Binance.US wins acquisition of Digital Voyager

Investing.com – The U.S. branch of Binance has won the bid to acquire crypto broker Voyager Digital. For just over $1 billion, Binance.US will take over operations from the company, which had to file for bankruptcy this summer and had customer payments frozen.

Previously, FTX.US was interested in taking over, but the collapse of Sam Bankman-Fried’s crypto empire rendered that option moot.

Voyager issued a statement indicating that a hearing will be held on January 5 with the bankruptcy court, which will ultimately decide whether the transaction goes through.

At the end of last month, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao had already announced that he would make an offer. Prior to FTX’s collapse, this was apparently not an option, as FTX.US was willing to take a bounty on the assets and offered $1.4 billion.

Voyager Digital has been accused of making $675 million in loans to hedge fund Three Arrows Capital, which turned out to be unrecoverable.
