Bing Chat is now available in the Microsoft Edge sidebar. Here’s why it matters

When I tested Bing Chat, I was impressed. The chatbot’s ability to hold a conversation while knowing the entire internet makes it a powerful tool. And the latest feature of the chatbot is a major step forward from this point of view.

Microsoft Edge now has a shortcut button in its sidebar to use Bing Chat. Which allows you to use its assistance on any web page. The sidebar will include the usual chat room and a “Compose” tab to generate texts according to your needs.

Once you navigate to the Compose tab, you can choose from five different tones, four different text formats, and three different lengths to generate the perfect text for your needs.

To write a professional email, just click on the sidebar

For example, if you’re writing a professional email, all you need to do is click on the sidebar, type your message, select the “professional tone” option, email format and medium length, and the text will be generated in taking into account all your criteria. It will be ready to be copied and pasted into your email.

This writing feature can be useful for many other uses, such as composing captions for social media posts, LinkedIn updates, meeting agendas, writing websites, and more.

Placing the chat in the sidebar can make it easier to provide informed answers and get clarification on difficult topics. If you’re browsing an article and see a word or topic you don’t really understand, instead of opening a new tab, you can just click on the sidebar.

This feature integrates in one place what other apps are doing

This feature is very important, because it integrates in one place what other apps are doing. For example, Slack’s integration with ChatGPT allows users to compose messages for their colleagues, but it’s limited to the app. With Microsoft Edge, however, you can use ChatGPT to compose messages on any website you open on the Edge browser.

This preview is still only available to early access users, but you can join the waiting list.
