Binge reloaded: Fresh "Switch reloaded" episodes under a new flag

"Switch reloaded" becomes "Binge reloaded": Amazon Prime will bring the well-known comedy show to the screens in a new guise.

A popular comedy format is returning to the screens: as the media magazine "DWDL" reports, "Switch" will soon be back in a new guise and on a new channel. The managing director of Prime Video in Germany, Christoph Schneider, confirmed in an interview there that the multiple award-winning, former ProSieben show will be relaunched on the streaming portal under the name "Binge reloaded". Michael Kessler (53) and Martin Klempnow (46) from the old cast are back on board.

New to the team are the comedians and actors Tahnee Schaffarczyk (28), Antonia von Romatowski (44), Joyce Ilg (36), Jan van Weyde (41), Paul Sedlmeir (39) and Christian Schiffer (41). The original version "Switch – TV mercilessly parodied!" ran on ProSieben from 1997 to 2000 and established itself as one of the most successful sketch shows on German television. After a longer break, the station followed up with "Switch reloaded" from 2007 and produced more than 100 episodes up to 2012.

Switching becomes bingen

Numerous TV personalities known to this day also made their way into the public consciousness thanks to the "Switch" formats. Including the aforementioned Michael Kessler, but also Annette Frier (46), Max Giermann (44), Martina Hill (46) and Bernhard Hoëcker (50). The concept was as simple as it was ingenious: In short skits, detailed parodies of actually existing TV programs were shown. The viewer was given the feeling of switching back and forth between the individual channels, that is, of "switching".

In the new edition, however, "switching" now becomes "bingen". According to Schneider, the parodies will also be extended to streaming productions, so it's not just classic TV programs that are being fooled. Schneider still left open whether formats of the Amazon competitor Netflix are also processed satirically. "Binge reloaded" should start at the end of the year.
