(CercleFinance.com) – The in vitro diagnostics group bioMérieux and Pfizer announce their collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Malawi, to create the first multi-sectoral initiative to combat antibiotic resistance in this southern African country.
This initiative will strengthen public action on the proper use of antibiotics through infection prevention and control, diagnosis and surveillance. It will also guide health professionals for the rational use of antibiotics.
‘Antibiotic resistance is one of the most serious threats to global health,’ say the two groups, emphasizing that it is responsible for 1.27 million deaths per year, mainly in low- and middle-income countries.
