This is not Amy Winehouse’s first biopic project, but it is by far the most successful, which will be directed by the one to whom we owe the success of “50 shades of Grey”.
It was in 2011 that the star of Amy Winehouse went to join the club of 27, where Jeff Buckley and Kurt Cobain were already waiting for him. Planetary star, the singer was as famous by his inimitable grain of voice than by his dissolute private life, chased by the paparazzi wherever she went, on the lookout for the slightest step aside. A perfect subject for a biopic.
Sam Taylor-Johnson, director of “Back to Black” after ’50 shades of grey’
All the basic ingredients of a good screenplay are there: fame and talent, addictions and free fall of a promising but uncontrollable star. The script, written by Matt Greenhalgh, seems already finished, according to Deadline which relays the information, and the production has been entrusted to Studiocanal, with the approval of the rights holders of the singer. At the realization, we find Sam Taylor-Johnson, craftsman of the success of the triology “50 shades”. So things got off to a good start, since the search for the main interpreter should start in the coming weeks.
However, this is not the first time that attempts have been made to have a biopic of the british singer see the day. None crossed the barrier of the realization, the last in date having been announced by Halcyon Studios which had declared working on an adaptation of Daphne Barak’s book, published in 2010, with the evocative title ‘Saving Amy’. Since then, this project has remained a dead letter. On the documentary side, a film by Asif Kapadia entitled ‘Amy’, came out in 2015. With two albums to his credit and six Grammy AwardsAmy Winehouse has fascinated the whole world, with both a short but intense career, due to her assets as well as her worst faults, which ended up condemning her to silence.
