BioWare: the development of Star Wars: The Old Republic will be delegated to bring reinforcements to Dragon Age: Dreadwolf and Mass Effect Next

It’s not a secret, BioWare hassle to wrap up Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. It has been rumored that it won’t be released until April 2024 at the earliest and the studio has confirmed that they are calling in the entire team of Mass Effect Next as well as Mark Darrah, executive producer of the studio and in charge of the franchise until 2021, to help him in the final stretch.

Obviously, Canadian developers need even more firepower to move forward, because IGN reports this week that the sequel to the production of Star Wars: The Old RepublicTHE MMORPGs part of the team has been managing in the background with content updates since 2011, was going to be delegated. The production of new content will not be stopped, but entrusted to Broadsword Online Games (Dark Age of Camelot, Ultima Online), a studio headed by Rob Denton, a former BioWare having contributed to SWTOR.

It would thus have been decided that, among the 70-80 developers of The Old Republic, half migrate to Broadswordwhile the other would be invited to stay at BioWare to support the teams in the development of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf And Mass Effect Next : in the event of refusal, dismissals would not be excluded. Without going into the administrative details, Electronic Arts confirmed all this with a short press release distributed at IGN.

Nearly 12 years after its launch, Star Wars: The Old Republic remains a success and continues to grow its dedicated and passionate community. We are very proud of the work accomplished by the team [du jeu] and the future of the game and the community remains very bright. We’re still figuring out how to give the game and the team the best opportunity to continue to grow and evolve, including talking to Broadsword, a studio that specializes in developing online community experiences. Our goal is to do what is best for the game and its players.

A page is turned at BioWare, who has more pressure than ever on his shoulders to succeed in his new projects. Waiting to discover more, Star Wars: The Old Republic is available in free-to-play on his official site.
