BioWare wants to “rebuild its reputation” with the next Mass Effect and Dragon Age

BioWare is a name that many gamers dream of. Baldur’s gate, Neverwinter nights, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, Dragon age, the American studio is famous for its cult role-playing games, but in recent years, it’s been a bit of a crisis, between a Dragon Age: Inquisition considered too action-oriented, a Mass Effect: Andromeda far from the genius of the original trilogy and a Anthem who has completely flunked.

Corn BioWare fortunately does not let itself down. Gary McKay, general manager from the studio, posted a long post on the official website of BioWare for look back at this fairly complicated year 2021 for several reasons (COVID pandemic, snowstorm), but which also saw the successful launch of Mass Effect Legendary Edition, remastering of the trilogy with the Commander Shepard and who conquered the players (moreover, the title is now in the Xbox Game Pass). What to give back strength to the developers, and the studio now intends to straighten the slope as it should, first with the extension Legacy of the Sith for the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic in February, but especially with the next Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Gary McKay states:

When I took over as Managing Director, I talked about rebuilding our reputation, and that remains a high priority. We’re focused on winning back the trust of our fans and our community, and we plan to do so by delivering the types of games we’re most known for and making sure they’re of the highest quality. Our mission is to “create worlds of adventure, conflict and camaraderie that inspire you to become the hero of your story”. We want the launch of our games to be a watershed moment in the industry. We want every game to elicit the kind of response we’ve seen with Mass Effect Legendary Edition. We believe we have the right people, the right creative direction, and the support of EA to deliver on our promises.

the general manager also looks back on these two titles, as well as on the teaser poster shared during the N7 Day last November:

We continue to work hard on the next iterations of Dragon Age and Mass Effect. I see incredible work from both teams. If you’re curious about Mass Effect, I encourage you to take a look at the poster we released on N7 Day. If you look closely, there are a handful of hidden secrets; In my opinion, there are at least five surprises, all of which point to an incredible future in the universe of Mass Effect. As for Dragon Age, we have a veteran group of talented developers working on the next iteration of the franchise. We focus on a solo experience based on choices that matter.

Gary McKay tries to reassure the fans, and we need to at least that, because BioWare has lost many famous developers in recent years, like Creative Director Matt Goldman, replacement for Mike Laidlaw, who left the company last year while actively working on Dragon Age Next. Interesting thing, Anthem’s name is not even mentioned in this post, proof that BioWare moved on, and that’s probably good for everyone. While waiting to discover the studio’s next games, you can find Mass Effect Legendary Edition at € 47 on Amazon.
