bipolarity, depression, the former host pays a moving tribute to his wife

In very dark times, the host of “The Treasure Map” Sylvain Augier was able to count on the unwavering support of his wife, to whom he pays tribute.

The world of television is not always kind… Sylvain Augier can attest to this. The former presenter of the cult show The treasure map discusses the difficulties he experienced during his career, linked to his personal life. On October 12, he released his book with the evocative title I am coming back from farpublished by Editions Telemaque, in which he pays tribute to his wife, who has always been by his side.

Like his colleagues in Numbers and letters, he was not spared by the audiovisual sector. Replaced at the head of his flagship show by Cyril Féraud, cash on a rumor concerning Fort Boyard who annoys him, Sylvain Augier suffers from bipolarity, an illness he hid for a long time. Not long ago, he revealed the amount of his “small normal retirement”. And the television man also returns to the conditions of his departure, as well as his descent into hell.

Sylvain Augier: from “The Treasure Map” to the suicide attempt

Victim of a paragliding accident in the 1980s, Sylvain Augier spent six months in hospital and became addicted to morphine. Fortunately, his wife, to whom he has been married for 33 years, gave him an ultimatum: if he didn’t stop, she would leave him! He then stopped it.in the minute”. For Le Figarohe talks about his other half: “She never let go of me but she sometimes shook me, yelled at me”. He was also able to feel this extraordinary support when he thought about ending his life. At 55, he lies down on the rails of a train near his home in Gard. In a moment of lucidity, he thinks that his suicide will perhaps be the end of his suffering but will be the beginning of that of his loved ones, including his wife, his children and his friends, and stops.

Then the host returned to the end of his collaboration with France 3, in 2005. He hosted The treasure map since 1996 but the channel uses his motorcycle accident in Corsica as an excuse to thank him. In the show At Jordan’she gives his version: “It’s true, but there was no reason other than to make me change… I think bipolarity had something to do with it”. Some people on his team would have noticed the warning signs of his illness and would have reported them to management: “It started to show. I had dips in morale which were not good for running the show… I worried unnecessarily, I lost my dynamism”. He concludes sadly: “The audiovisual industry is ruthless”.
