Another giant who wants to be green – The mining company Argo Blockchain will soon start mining Bitcoin (BTC) in Texas. The speeches of companies in the sector now have similarities with those held by candidates for elections – presidential or legislative.
Bitcoin Mining in Texas: Saddle Up, Cowboy!
Argo Blockchain announced, in a tweet on May 5, 2022, that it plans to launch its operations of mining in the county of Dickens (Texas)from this week of May 9, 2022. The facility will have 20,000 Bitmain S19J Pro, which will be rolled out gradually from May to October 2022.
The company had acquired land there of about 1.30 km2 – 320 acres – in 2021, for its future mining facility. Its data center is expected to have an initial power of 200 megawatts (MW). This number will increase by 600 MW additional “in the years to come”.
In terms of mining power, Argo estimates that it will be able to deliver a hash rate of 5.5 exahashes per second (EH/s) by end of 2022. This power should then reach 20 PE/s thanks to the additional 600 MW.

A finally ecological mining process… or not?
Argo CEO, Peter Wall, had cited access to renewable energy sources in Dickens County as the reason for the company’s choice of location. Argo Blockchain indeed wishes “ mine bitcoin in the most environmentally friendly way possible “.
Peter Wall presented the mining activities of Argo, as an opportunity to use the excess energy available in the locality:

The company had already indicated, in August 2021, that its mining operations had become “climate positive” for certain classifications of greenhouse gas emissions. She also has a plan to become carbon neutral.
Argo Blockchain mining operations will therefore normally begin just over a month, after the company has traded miners with Core Scientific. This operation is part of Argo’s preparations to implement its strategic choices for mining BTC.
