Investing.com – Although the has struggled to break above the key $25,000 threshold that has been hampering for several days, it is still up almost 50% since the start of the year, for a market capitalization of 473.27 billions of dollars at the time of this writing.

However, as several observers pointed out over the weekend, the major cryptocurrency now boasts a higher capitalization than card payments giant Visa (NYSE:), which ended last Friday’s session down 1% with a capitalization of 459 billion dollars.

Note that this is the third time that BTC has exceeded Visa’s market cap, with the previous two times occurring in late December 2020, when BTC first hit $25,000, and in April 2021.

BTC is also well ahead of the second-largest payment processing network, Mastercard (NYSE:), which currently has a market capitalization of $343.32 billion, according to Investing.com data.
