Bitcoin and AI: the genius idea of the Lightning Network

AI is coming to Bitcoin. Faced with the advent of ChatGPT, artificial intelligence (AI) is at the heart of the news. Obviously, this phenomenon has also impacted the crypto sphere, with more and more projects linking the two universes. Now it’s the turn of the Lightning Network of Bitcoin to get into the sauce AI.

A Suite of AI Tools for Bitcoin’s Lightning Network

Lightning Labs is the company in charge of developing the Lightning Network on Bitcoin. As a reminder, the LN is a second layer solution to Bitcoin. It allows almost instantaneous and low-cost transactions.

The Ligtning Network succumbs to AI fever

On July 6, Lightning Labs teams announced the launch of a news suite of tools powered by AI.

LangChainBitcoin

First, we find LangChainBitcoin. It is a set of tools allowing agents ChatGPT to interact directly with Bitcoin and the NL. This set includes two major tools:

  • LLM Agent BitcoinTools : a series of tools that use OpenAI’s GPT function calls, to allow developers to create agents that can hold a Bitcoin balance (on chain and Lightning), send/receive Bitcoin over Lightning and also drive directly with an LND node;
  • L402 HTTP API Traversal : A Python wrapper for an LLM LangChain that allows agents to transparently access APIs paid for by L402.

aperture

Secondly, Lightning Labs presents aperturea reverse proxy of the L402 protocol, allowing transform any API in paid resource to use.

In practice, this means that each time an API is used, a small amount of Bitcoin will be charged. This monetizes API usage and recoups operational costs, all on Bitcoin.

A strong link between AI and Bitcoin

With this update, the Lightning Network demonstrates its will to position itself in the sector ofartificial intelligence. Indeed, the rise of LLMs, such as ChatGPT, has led to the creation of “officers”standalone ChatGPT programs that can perform given tasks.

Through its update, the Lightning Network, and in particular its Aperture tool, could position itself effectively in payment systems linked to GPT agents. Indeed, as they evolve, these agents will have to make payments for the resources they use. In the end, Aperture offers the possibility of monetizing an API in BTC, an ideal currency for making payments from an agent.

This vision is shared by the investment fund Paradigmwho recently stated that AI and cryptocurrencies were not mutually exclusive.
