Bitcoin is back to school in El Salvador

On Monday I have Bitcoin from 9am to 10am. This sentence could be pronounced by a young schoolboy of the salvador from next Monday on the occasion of the start of a new program in the public schools from the country. This educational content is initiated and provided by the teams of the non-governmental organization Mi Primer Bitcoin and its objective is to learn the basics of using Bitcoin to children, within schools. The country of Nayib Bukele continues its experiments around crypto despite criticism and reservations from part of the international community. Focus on this rather encouraging new initiative.

The NGO Mi Primer Bitcoin dusts off the school with Bitcoin

It’s the Ministry of Education of El Salvador who announced it jointly with the leaders of the NGO Mi Primer Bitcoin (BPM) – my first bitcoin. The program is based on the prior training of teachers who will receive the basics in order to then be able to provide the educational content. 150 professionals education from 75 schools are concerned to begin with, but the initiative will be extended to the rest of the country if successful.

Those responsible for this class of a new kind have great ambitions for the future and are aware of the importance of transmission:

“As the first country to adopt Bitcoin, El Salvador will be an example to the world. Quality education is therefore our best chance of ensuring that this example is positive. »

Specifically, students will practice send and to receive a few sats to familiarize themselves with the concepts of wallet, public key, but they will also have more formal lessons about the cash and its digital alter ego, the cryptocurrency.

El Salvador persists in its policy and is even emulated

John Dennehythe founder of MPB, was of course delighted with the large-scale implementation of his idea and remembers the beginnings, not without nostalgia:

“When Mi Primer Bitcoin started two years ago, one of the dreams was to educate a nation. It is therefore an important step that we have just taken. El Salvador is leading the way in public education on Bitcoin and we expect other countries to follow. Because the world is watching. »

And the world is not just watching, because in the sub-region, two other countries have already declared their interest in the program, while bitcoin cuba announced to embark on the experiment. In the same genre, but on another continent, this is the Bitcoin Ekassi project who put the education of children at the center of his project with always Bitcoin as the main tool of emancipation in South Africa. Its founders were also largely inspired by the principle of circular economy developed by Bitcoin Beach in El Salvador.

No offense to the many detractors of the president Bukelethe country therefore continues its odyssey in the crypto with the ambition of lifting as many people as possible out of poverty while breaking free from the old economic models that have kept the country in the misery for decades. So yeah, it’s not perfect. And yes, current success is mixed. But no one said it would all be done in a day and anyway, the status quo was no longer tenable for this small state on the South American isthmus, still at the bottom of the pack in international rankings which has little to lose in terms of experimentation.
